How amazing are these details??
We loved hosting this beautiful wedding reception!
Some words from Emily…
How did you meet?
We met our freshman year of high school (in a northern Chicago suburb), but didn’t start dating until our junior year.
We got engaged during one of my last winter visits to Chicago, before Kyle moved. We went to different colleges, Kyle went to Indiana, I went to CU Denver and I stayed in Colorado after graduating. Kyle didn’t move out here for another few months after that. A lot of people don’t bother with long distance relationships, and I’ll say it definitely wasn’t easy. But, if you care about each other enough you can make it work. Now we appreciate being together even more.
How did you get engaged?
We had plans to go to a concert of a singer we both really love. We decided to go to dinner downtown before the concert, but what I didn’t know was that Kyle had made reservations at a lovely Italian restaurant. When we had finished sharing a delicious meal and bottle of wine he got up and proposed. I said yes, and the restaurant treated us to a champagne toast.
Did you enjoy wedding planning?
Wedding planning was pretty stressful, especially because I wanted to oversee everything myself, and because we didn’t hire a separate wedding planner. Luckily our families were very helpful and supportive during the process. Worrying about budgets and meeting deadlines was definitely not a fun part; sometimes it felt like there wouldn’t be enough time to get everything done. Fortunately, everyone we worked with was really kind, helpful and experienced, which made everything run smoothly. It was exciting to find my dress, pick decorations, get in touch with friends and family, and start to envision how everything would come together on the day.
What made you decide to have your wedding in Estes Park, Colorado?
We love spending time in the mountains and decided right away, that was where we wanted to get married. My parents and grandparents had moved to Loveland a few years earlier, so visiting Estes Park had become a regular occurrence. We knew Estes had everything we wanted for us and our guests: beautiful scenery, a variety of things to do in the mountains or in town, great restaurants, and lodging. My parents and I found Twin Owls Steakhouse and Black Canyon Inn before the engagement. We had gone hiking nearby at Lumpy Ridge and my dad spotted the restaurant on the drive back. We stopped in for drinks and appetizers (the delicious elk bites, I believe) and my mom grabbed some brochures. When we started looking for wedding venues I remembered the lovely, rustic aesthetic of the steakhouse and scenic location. We only looked at one or two other venues and quickly realized Twin Owls Steakhouse and Black Canyon Inn was the perfect place for us. We loved the mountain cabin feel of the steakhouse, the delicious menu, and the backdrop of Lumpy Ridge from the Pavilion.
I have two favorite memories from our wedding day. The first was seeing all our family and friends together enjoying the mountain air and sunshine during cocktail hour on the lawn. The second was our first dance. Under the twinkle lights in the steakhouse surrounded by everyone we love, we were able to get lost in a moment together and soak in all the beauty of the day.
