A beautiful summer mountain wedding!

How delicious do these sweet treats look!?

From the bride and groom…

How did you meet your husband?

I have known Adam’s brother, Scott, for over half of my life. He started as my hair stylist and about 1,000 highlights later, our friendship was one of my favorites. When I attended Scott’s wedding, I was happily surprised to meet his super-cute brown-eyed-rosy cheeked brother, Adam. It was “I want to marry you right now” at first sight for both of us. It was only fitting, that Scott became ordained and led our wedding ceremony five years later.

How did you get engaged?

One night, while Adam and I were out to dinner, my three best friends were back at our house setting up a magical scene. We walked in the door to see twinkly lights, champagne, and a chocolate lavender cake (my favorite!). I had no idea that the three engagement elves were hiding in the next room. Adam dropped to his knee with the sweetest yellow velvet ring box in his hand and asked me to marry him. I noticed a camera propped up recording the event and I shouted “GUYS, COME OUT HERE!”. It was so comfortable having such a big moment in our home and with my gal pals by my side. It felt very “Sex in the City”. I couldn’t have written a better story. We planned our wedding exactly one year from that day.

What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding?

I really enjoyed planning our wedding. I’m a designer, and obsessed with details. I really wanted every detail to reflect our personalities. Some of my favorite parts included:

  • The wedding dress shop experience with my mom
  • Working with a Seattle based calligrapher to create our wooden signs
  • Catching a flight to Colorado for food and beer tasting with our moms (it was Mother’s Day weekend too—how perfect!) One of Adam’s favorite parts was “seeing their faces when they saw the ceremony view!”.
  • Co-designing our invitations
  • Eating ALL the desserts
  • Making flower pins for our guests’ hair
  • Talking Adam into a dance lesson—he said this was one of his favorite parts!

Another highlight for me was planning something special for my mom. Without her knowing, our photographer and I did a photoshoot of me wearing my mom’s wedding dress. We replicated her bouquet, and included some other elements of my parents’ wedding photos within these new photos as well. We also snuck a few of my childhood treasures into the background. I then created a book of these photos with a letter to her on the first page. I gave it to her the morning of our wedding. She loved it, and was so surprised!

What brought you to Estes Park?

We live in Kansas City, but we wanted to get married in Colorado from the get go. I grew up camping in Colorado, and Adam and I visit whenever we get the chance. It’s our favorite place. We love being outdoors and visiting our friends and family there. We wanted to share with our family and friends the magic that we always find in and around Estes Park. The sunshine, the fresh air, the breathtaking views. The night before our wedding, our guests rode the Estes Park Trolley to The Barrel beer garden for a BBQ and beer celebration. It was awesome seeing so many of our guests make a vacation out of it. Many people came early or stayed late to explore and enjoy what Colorado has to offer.

What made you pick Black Canyon Inn and Twin Owls Steakhouse?

Once we saw the backdrop that the Black Canyon Inn provides, it was settled. The staff of both the Black Canyon Inn and the Twin Owls Steakhouse were a total dream to work with. Sandra in particular (one of the owner of the Steakhouse) became a friend! We were constantly in touch throughout the year. She is organized, a great communicator, and sweet as can be. We also liked how the Twin Owls Steakhouse was a complete package —cocktail hour, dinner, full bar, wait staff, etc. It made it much simpler than having to coordinate with separate vendors. We loved having our cocktail hour on the lawn. We had signature cocktails, yard games, bubbles, and hula hoops. Their restaurant receives a lot of recognition too, so we knew the food would be delicious!

“Twin Owls proved themselves to us during the tasting- the prime rib!! Having memorable food was super important to us.”- Adam

There are several cabins directly on site, which was awesome. It felt like we had our own little town with friends and family staying in cabins that were next door to each other. That was a huge perk. The kids that attended our wedding loved having a swimming pool on site and were excited to see herds of deer and elk pay daily visits. Adam and I will definitely be back to reminisce on our time there.

Favorite memory of your wedding day?

“Our first look was really exciting! The boys got in one car and the girls in another. Adam was blindfolded and we all drove just off-site of the Inn. We wanted to be near, but totally private, so we pulled up to a wooded area to do our first look. Our best friends (our wedding party) watched from a distance and cheered us along. It was fun for us to have a moment together to celebrate our day before everyone else was around. It didn’t make our ceremony any less exciting either—it gave us just a taste of what to look forward to! Our ceremony was another major highlight of the day. It felt really felt comfortable and fun. We burned sage to purify the space and to bless our future together. Our sage bundle included rosemary and lavender for health and roses for love. We wrote our own vows which proved to be difficult but well worth it. We wanted our ceremony to be incredibly personal, intimate, and unique to us. The reception was total perfection. One of my best friends, Emily, wrote and performed a SONG as her speech. It was based on Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and she modified all of the words to tell Adam and I’s story. She’s not normally one to grab a microphone, but for me, she did. It was the best surprise!! It really is incredible to look around a room and realize that everyone there is showering you with love and support and well wishes. They traveled near and far for us. It was my favorite day.”- Michelle

“Looking around and seeing the most important people in our lives all dancing and laughing together was amazing. The moment I will never forget is watching Michelle walk down the aisle. Before that day, that was something I ran through my head a million times, but I wasn’t prepared. My legs were about 5 seconds from completely buckling underneath me. I will never forget the happiness I felt in that moment!”- Adam
