Wedding Music Trends

There is so much that goes into planning a wedding! One of the big choices that will need to be made is what music you will play during your event. We asked one of our favorite DJs for help on what’s trending in wedding music today…

The first thing to know about weddings and music is that there aren’t any rules.  You can do whatever you want.  Make it personal!

Most popular… (for 2018)

Coming into the new year, the number one song on the pop charts is the song “Perfect”, the duet version by Ed Sheeran with Beyonce.  I had a bride walk down the aisle to this one already.  It’s incredible!

First dance songs

I have couples doing everything from classic, “Everything” by Michael Buble to personal, “18th Floor Balcony” by Blue October.  I don’t really have any couples using brand new songs.  “You & Me” by The Dave Matthews Band is another that comes to mind.

Dance songs for a good party

When people celebrate and dance together at a wedding, they want fun, recognizable music.
These are still FILLING the dance floor:
     Uptown Funk
     Can’t Stop The Feeling!
(also, the 80s & 90s are hot again!: Billie Jean, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Mambo #5, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, etc.)

Songs the bride walks down the aisle to

That “Perfect” song that I noted above.  Also, “Your Song” by Ellie Goulding (originally, Elton John)

Recessional songs

“Something Just Like This” by Coldplay and The Chainsmokers,  and (again the 80s!): “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall & Oates

Father – daughter dance songs

(ask dad what he wants!)   “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan, “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty

Mother – son dance songs

(ask mom what she likes!)    “Humble And Kind” by Tim McGraw, “Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog! or Sarah McLaughlin or Willie Nelson, “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
